Run! Run! Run!

The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon is an international event held annually on the first Sunday of December in the city of Singapore. This annual event attracted more than 50,000 participants this year, from countries like Kenya, China, England, Ethiopia, South Africa, Sweden, Russia and many more. The marathon has been declared as an IAAF Silver Label Road Race and is televised around the world. The event has 4 categories to compete in, namely the full marathon, half marathon, 10km run and 10km wheelchair race. Also, there is a 750m kid’s dash for children, so everyone is included in the fun.

This year, I went for the 42.195km run, or the full marathon. It was extremely exhilarating and also inspiring, was I would be running along-side literally thousands of people from around the globe. Everywhere I looked, I could see the many diverse races converging together, with one common goal.

Me, finally finishing one of the toughest, but enjoyable events held in our island-country, Singapore.

I would say that this is one of the shining moments of Singapore's sporting effort as it started out as a small race, but has become an internationally known event which the world knows. It showcases the country as a global sports hub, where everyone of different nationality, race and culture can come together as one.
